What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy that is based on the science of behaviors and learning. ABA applies the science of Behavior Analysis in a systematic way to alter individuals’ behaviors to improve the quality of their lives. In ABA, behavior is anything that a person does or says. Interventions can address anything from communication and social skills to daily living skills as well as manage challenging maladaptive behaviors. The overall goal of ABA is to increase behaviors that are beneficial to the individual and decrease ones that might cause harm or impact learning.

ABA is considered an evidence-based best practice treatment by the US Surgeon General and by the American Psychological Association. Research has shown that ABA is an effective intervention for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as other developmental conditions to address skill deficits and to minimize challenging behaviors.
